Taking the path less traveled often leads you to places you never imagined.
And in 2013 some of those paths got you around the Route 59 road expansion construction and the Washington resurfacing project this past fall. And did I mention the other eight major traffic snarling projects that happened in 2013?
While the Route 59 expansion continues, the Washington project is finished. Not to say that Washington Street did not seem like a complete mess during construction, but now it seems long ago.
And how about those less traveled roads, how are they now?
Your cut-through routes along River Road between Ogden and Aurora or maybe Columbia between Ogden and Hillside are now a lot less congested. Still very nice and picturesque, those routes are not the direct path to shopping, city services and other major destinations.
In commercial real estate, roads are categorized as “public space.” They are the arteries of commerce, and in some settings they are the destination, and not just the means to one.
In 2014 the path Real News will focus on is public space.
We will attempt to uncover other public spaces like parks, schools, government buildings, transportation centers, and amenities we all collectively own as residents of this city.
So for now, Happy New Year!
And always drive safely along the paths you travel. Remember, the speed limit on all neighborhood streets in Naperville is 25 mph unless otherwise posted. Be mindful of winter weather conditions that can slow traff ic. Pay careful attention to school zones.
