UPDATE Oct. 20, 2013 / A front page story in the print edition of the Daily Herald features a story about Main Street Promenade East and its ground-breaking news scheduled for Mon., Oct. 21.
Main Street Promenade East progresses
Pending weather and unforeseen circumstances, Main Street between Van Buren and Benton avenues is anticipated to close starting Mon., Sept. 30 until summer 2014 as construction begins in October on the Main Street Promenade East development, a $30 million retail-and-office project in downtown Naperville.
Visitors to downtown Naperville Friday afternoon watched as the trailer for the construction office was set into place in the empty lot alongside Benton Terrace, property with plans to be developed after Main Street Promenade East is finished.
Motorists traveling through that portion of downtown Naperville are advised to be cautious of construction occurring in the area and allow extra time to reach their destination.
Construction of the Main Street Promenade East development, located on the northeast corner of Main Street and Van Buren Avenue, is scheduled to begin in early October. As part of the project, Main Street will be reconstructed and the sidewalks on both sides of the roadway will be improved. Both the roadway and sidewalks will be closed between Benton and Van Buren avenues through summer 2014. Pedestrian access will be maintained to the businesses on the west side of Main Street from Van Buren Avenue.
Beginning September 30, the south side of the sidewalk along Benton Avenue between Main Street and the Van Buren Parking Deck entrance will be closed. A detour will be posted directing pedestrians to use the north sidewalk along Benton Avenue.
Motor vehicle access to the Van Buren Parking Deck will remain unaffected throughout the project.
Note also one-way vehicular traffic from Washington Street west along Van Buren Avenue to Main Street is now in place. A covered sidewalk provides protection for pedestrians during construction.
