Update: June 3, 2014 /  Portraiture progress is prominent along Rubins Way, just off Main Street in downtown Naperville. This week you can you see faces in the crowd of some people always present in Naperville parades, colorful likenesses that were missing last week.

Update: May 24, 2014 / Oh! How Naperville residents love their parades.

As we reflect on four artists’ progress of “Naperville Loves a Parade” along Rubins Way, note that some spots are still available for spectators to join the crowd and for businesses to dot the local landscape. During this fourth summer, visitors can stroll the alley to watch the fine artists—Dodie Mondero, Marianne Lisson Kuhn, Adela Vystejnova and Ashley Samack— paint the finishing touches on the Century Walk mural, sure to ignite hundreds of stories about volunteerism, community spirit and local culture as well as supporting the Naperville economy!

Three years ago immediately following the Naperville Memorial Day Observance in Central Park, the community was welcomed to learn about the two murals that celebrate our city’s enthusiasm for parades.  Back then, depiction of the family-friendly experiences that extend from St. Patrick’s Day to Memorial Day to Labor Day and to the Christmas holidays in downtown Naperville were limited to a small portion of the yet-to-be-named alley. A much different scene stretches along Rubins Way today, so-named as a tribute to the owners of the building.

Walk this way west from Main Street to discover the colorful mural of animated spectators in the crowd on one side facing the mural reflecting images in gray tones of the “Parade of the Century” by artist Adela Vystejnova on the other.

The first Naperville Memorial Day Parade to honor the sacrifices and service of the nation’s military families was held in 1928.

A Letter to PN and the Naperville Community

A Historical 41st Project by Century Walk Corporation

We have officially returned for the final year in order to complete Century Walk Corporation’s Naperville Loves a Parade mural project at Rubins Way in downtown Naperville.

NapervilleMural-Web

The amazing support we have received from the people of Naperville is overwhelming, and we now extend a final invitation to those interested in being a part of this one-of-a-kind project depicting both real and fictional parade watchers to sign on.

It’s the LAST chance for you or your business to join them, or for you to honor someone who should be portrayed there.

This Norman Rockwell inspired mural represents the strong community that truly sets Naperville apart and you and your family and/or business STILL have a chance to be on the wall.

It’s important to remember that your participation in this permanent mural not only supports public art, but, because Century Walk Corporation has 501(c)3 status, it is also 90 percent tax deductible.

For details on costs associated with joining us on the mural, go to www.centurywalk.org and “shop” or contact Century Walk, tel: (630) 355-5553. We very much would like to put you where you belong.

Respectfully, your Mural Artists:
Dodie Mondero, Marianne Lisson Kuhn,
Adela Vystejnova and Ashley Samack
