Your Table is Ready – Bangkok Village

-

Upon entering Bangkok Village Restaurant at 22 E. Chicago Ave., we were greeted by a statue of Buddha and a picture of Russell Crowe — the beginning of an interesting dinner? Yes.

RicesWhile not particularly familiar with Thai cuisine, our server Amma, with a friendly smile, was especially helpful. We began with her recommendation of a Bangkok Platter—two each of Seafood Dumplings, Pot Stickers, Satay Chicken, Egg Rolls and Fried Wonton. Outstanding start.

With owner Wijid Fay overseeing the dining room, Bangkok Village has been serving Naperville since 1989. The restaurant is adorned with pictures of long ago Siam as well intricate silk needlepoint wall hangings.

For entrees, Laurie ordered Cashew Chicken—sliced chicken breast sautéed with roasted cashews, pineapple, sweet pepper, onion and mushrooms in a light chili sauce. Mark selected one of his favorites—Salmon “Triple Delight”—salmon steak served in a spicy (not too) sweet and sour tamarind sauce with garlic, onion, tomato, sweet pepper and basil leaves. Jasmine rice, steamed to perfection, was served with both dinners. All we could do was eat and smile—just like Amma.

The menu at Bangkok Village is filled with seafood, beef, chicken and pork entrees prepared in a variety of methods and seasoned with teriyaki, ginger, curry or garlic. Soups, salads, rice dishes, noodles and vegetarian selections also are available.

Dessert beckoned and we followed. We shared an order of Thai Custard, a blend of eggs and coconut milk served warm. Wonderful.

And Russell Crowe? Bangkok Village catered the set of “Superman: Man of Steel” when filmed in this area in 2011.

While departing, we could only ask, “Why did it take us so long to visit Bangkok Village?”
