Naperville North High School’s Show Choir ensembles received numerous awards at the Keokuk Show Choir Invitational 2013 in Keokuk, Iowa, on Feb. 9, after intense competition among several other Show Choir high schools across the Midwest. The event was Naperville North’s first competitive performance since its inception in 2011.
The “High Heeled Harmony” ensemble won Grand Champion in Female Division award, followed by the small ensemble “Painted Noise” who was named Grand Champion of Vocal Ensemble Division.
In addition, the mixed male/female ensemble “Entourage” became First Runner Up at the Finals competition, following a second place award in the Varsity Open Class Mixed Division. Other awards received by NNHS at Keokuk included Most Outstanding Female Soloist, Kayla Combs (Entourage); Best Overall Costume Designs (Entourage) and Second Place Instrumental Combo. Nicholas P. Janssen and Rachel Shershin directed all performances under the choreography of Janssen.
Next up, the NNHS Show Choir will also participate at the El Paso-Gridley Show Choir Invitational this Sat., Feb. 16; and again at the Grand River National Show Choir Invitational 2013 on Sat., March 16.
The extra-curricular Show Choir program at Naperville North High School comprise a highly selective and competitive ensemble of singer-dancers who perform in choral concerts, Show Choir festivals, clinics and community performances throughout the year. Participation in Show Choir is a yearlong commitment beginning during the summer, before school starts and lasting until the following summer, after school has dismissed.
