Your Table is Ready — Wicked Good Cafe

-

RicesUPDATE: Wicked Good  Café is closed for good.

Take a step into New England at the Wicked Good Café. Opened in the spring of 2012 in Cress Creek Square Plaza, WGC is a family-run restaurant featuring salads, wraps, burritos, quesadillas and, of course, homemade soups and baked goods – with New England Clam “Chowda” as the Friday special.

And we can’t forget “Mass. Ave Mac and Cheese,” a Naperville North favorite.

Mark began with creamy tomato soup – perfectly seasoned and finished with Accini de Pepe pasta, parmesan and spinach.

Laurie, eating on the lighter side, ordered The Martha’s Vineyard Salad – lettuce, tomato, cukes, Mandarin oranges, dried cranberries, red onions and almonds finished with balsamic vinaigrette. Laurie said the lettuce tasted “just picked.”

Mark settled on The Ivy League – a tomato basil wrap with “big chunks of chicken” and a cole slaw that reminded Mark of growing up in New England—a hint of relish and Vidalia onion—“wicked good.”

The decor is pure New England farmhouse—an eclectic arrangement of tables and chairs with a fireplace mantel—a true warmth and family feeling is there.

It’s a family affair. Tom Scott does the cooking with daughters, Chloe and Tess, working the register and serving tables. Tom mentioned that customers often help out when it gets busy–Wicked Cool. And Debi Thomas, Tom’s wife, makes all the soups from scratch, bakes muffins, pies, cakes and cookies. The recipes are all well-kept secrets and now we know why. We ordered a Red Velvet cupcake and a pumpkin muffin “to go” to enjoy our dessert the next day.

The Wicked Good Café has a partnership with Naperville school districts to employ special needs students. On the night we visited, Liam was making sure our table was bussed and that all was well.

Entertainment featuring local musicians is scheduled during the week for your dinner enjoyment.

After our initial visit to The Wicked Good Café, we decided that it is “really wicked good” and we’ll return again – for the “Chowda,” the warmth and everything else.

Wicked Good Cafe is located at 790 Royal Saint George Drive #140 in the Cress Creek Square Shopping Center.  Visit www.wickedgoodcafe.com for more information.
