Update / 2023 Annual Arbor Day Tree Sale extended online until April 19

Update, April 15, 2023 / Naperville’s annual Arbor Day Tree Sale is currently open and has been extended to close on Wed., April 19 at 5PM or when all trees are sold, whichever comes first. Note, the sale was extended because some new inventory has been added. A drive-thru tree pickup still will take place from 8AM to 1PM on Saturday, April 22 at the Public Works Service Center, 180 Fort Hill Drive.

Original Post, March 13, 2023 / The City of Naperville’s annual Arbor Day Tree Sale will take place online for a four-week period beginning March 20. The sale link will open at 8AM on Monday, March 20 and will close at 5PM on Friday, April 14, or when all trees are sold, whichever comes first. A drive-thru tree pickup will take place from 8AM to 1PM on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the Public Works Service Center, located at 180 Fort Hill Drive.

Customers will be able to select from 34 different species of container-grown trees costing between $25 and $60 for use in beautifying their yards and sustaining the environment. A total of 381 trees are available for purchase, including various maples, oaks and elms.

How to Place a Tree Order

All orders must be placed online at www.naperville.il.us/arbordaytreesaleTrees are categorized by price, and residents may purchase multiple tree types through PayPal in one transaction. Once an online order is complete, shoppers will be directed to use an online calendar to schedule a time to pick up their tree(s) on Saturday, April 22 at the Public Works Service Center. For the safety of all, participants will be asked to stay in their vehicles while City staff members load the trees into vehicles during their pre-scheduled pickup timeslot. Customers will be limited to six trees. All tree sales are final, and trees must be picked up on April 22. Payment will be forfeited for trees that are not picked up on April 22 and no refunds will be given.

Rain Barrel Pickup Event 

The City, in partnership with the Conservation Foundation and Upcycle Products, continues to promote using rain barrels as a free irrigation option.

Back again this year, rain barrel purchases received by mail-in form by April 14 or online before April 16 may be picked up during the tree sale drive-thru from 8AM to 1PM on Saturday, April 22 at the Public Works Service Center. A portion of rain barrel sales will be donated to the Conservation Foundation. Rain barrel orders must be placed at https://upcycle-products.com/il-programs/nprv/.

“The annual Arbor Day Tree Sale is a long-standing tradition that honors the City’s continued commitment to sustainability,” said Naperville Sustainability Coordinator Ben Mjolsness. “Raising awareness about the importance of trees and rain barrels and encouraging residents to take action to improve the environment will help to ensure a better Naperville for future generations.”

2023 Morton Arboretum Arbor Day Plant Sale – April 27 thru April 29

Reserve tickets now for the Morton Arboretum Arbor Day Plant Sale set to take place from Thurs., April 27, through Sat., April 29. (Tickets for April 27 and April 28 have sold out.)

One of the largest seasonal plant sales in the Chicago region, the Arbor Day Plant Sale supports the Arboretum’s scientific research and conservation work locally, nationally, and globally. 

Select from an exceptional array of plants procured by the Arboretum’s experts and chosen specifically for the Midwestern climate. The Arbor Day Plant Sale will be held in the South Farm, offering a large, open indoor space for protection from inclement weather. 

Tickets to the Plant Sale are now open to the public. Tickets include timed-entry general admission to enter the Arboretum.

Regular Plant Sale tickets are $10 for members and $27 for guests with a two ticket limit per membership or guest, which includes general admission to the Arboretum for the day. Member children under age 18 are admitted free of charge but will need a ticket.

2023 McDonald Farm Annual Plant Sale runs May 12 and May 13

The McDonald Farm is bringing back its in-person sale this Mother’s Day weekend, with a wide selection of native perennials, grasses, McDonald Farm-grown organic vegetable and herb seedlings, organic compost, Mother’s Day gift options, and more.

The sale runs from 3 to 7PM Fri., May 12; and from 8:30AM to 1PM Sat., May 13.
