The Naperville Noon Lions Club recently dedicated a collection box for used eyeglasses at the branch of Naperville Bank and Trust, located at 1205 S. Naper Blvd. in the Market Meadows Shopping Center.

This second collection box, also in Lions Club logo signature yellow, aims to expand the number of eyeglasses the service club collects by providing a convenient location for residents of south Naperville.

“We are honored to partner with the Naperville Bank and Trust Company who provided the location of the boxes in the plaza of their branch locations,” said Lion President Bob Hull, acknowledging the first collection box is located in front to the bank’s downtown location.

Both Market Manager Mike Brown and Assistance Branch Manager Clayton Partak at the bank worked with the Lions to make the second collection box a reality.

In addition, Accurate Auto Body Shop in Naperville provided the painting and lettering of the box at no cost to the Lions.

Each year, the Naperville Lions collect more than 5,000 pairs of eyeglasses to be recycled. These eye glasses are delivered to the Lions of Illinois Foundation in DeKalb, Illinois where they are combined with hundreds of thousands of eyeglasses collected from around the state.  Volunteers then sort the recycled glasses and forward them to the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center (LERC) where they are cleaned, sorted by prescription strength, and then packaged. Recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in lower-income countries.

All used eyeglasses donations are appreciated

The Lions also have a collection box at 5 S. Washington Street in downtown Naperville.  These two boxes are available for drop offs 24/7.

“If you or someone you know wears glasses, you know how important they are to daily life,” noted Lions Club publicist Meghen Williams. “Now imagine not being able to afford glasses. We at the Naperville Noon Lions are here to serve and our eyeglasses collection program is an important part of our service.”
