Original Post, Oct. 2, 2021 / The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is joining efforts to protect the community from COVID-19. The Y has arranged for the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) mobile vaccination vans to be present at its local centers the week of Oct. 3 in the Chicago (Lake View North Lawndale, and Irving Park), Lake Zurich in the north suburbs, and Downers Grove, Elmhurst and Naperville in the southwest suburbs.
Beginning in Naperville at 8AM until 11AM on Mon., Oct. 4, the free clinics are part of a seven-day campaign involving 12 YMCA sites across the city and suburbs intended to meet the evolving needs of Chicagoland families by increasing access to the COVID-19 vaccine in the neighborhoods it serves and save lives.
At each mobile vaccination clinic, IDPH staff will administer doses of either the Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson vaccine free of charge on a walk-in basis. A photo ID is not required. Follow-up vaccination clinics for the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine will be scheduled at each location.
As an added incentive to get community members vaccinated, the Y is waiving the joining fee on a new membership for all vaccinated individuals who can show proof of full vaccination at any Y membership desk until Nov. 1.
To date, the YMCA of Metro Chicago has helped to vaccinate more than 900 community members through vaccination clinics at its Chicagoland sites.
