At 11:32AM on Sat. Sept. 11, 2021, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a call on the 800 block of S. Charles Avenue by the occupant of a home who stated they had a fire in their garage.
A General Alarm assignment consisting of three engines, two ladder trucks, one heavy rescue squad, two medic units, and two battalion commanders was dispatched by PSAP for the structure fire at 11:33 AM.
Battalion 1 and Truck 1 arrived on scene at 11:37 AM where they found a two-story, wood framed, single-family residential structure with heavy fire showing from the front of the attached garage. Truck 1, Squad 8, and Engine 7 began an aggressive attack on the garage, darkening down the fire and keeping it from spreading into the primary residence.
A 360-degree survey of the home was complete by first arriving companies, with fire found on the rear of the garage as well. Companies on scene utilized a coordinated attack to extinguish the fire and begin overhaul and salvage operations within 15 minutes of arrival.
Crews on scene were able to confirm both occupants were out of the house prior to NFD arrival. Primary and secondary searches were conducted, and no additional occupants were found.
Residents from the home stated they were alerted to the fire by working smoke detectors in the home, and upon seeing smoke coming from the garage door called 911.
