Dear District 204 Community,
At last night’s board of education meeting, we shared our revised plan for the 2021-22 school year, which incorporated Governor Pritzker’s recent mask mandate for all PK-12 schools. We understand that this decision is welcomed by some but not by others. I noted during my comments at the board meeting that schools are required to follow the governor’s mask mandate. Should you have concerns or feedback regarding the mask mandate in schools or the governor’s ability to implement such a mandate, please direct them to the Governor’s Office.
It is our goal to return children to school for full in-person learning and to keep them there. Therefore, we will be following the mask mandate and implementing safety protocols based on current District 204 community transmission levels.
We will review local positivity rates and provide updates regarding changing mitigation strategies every Monday, via the COVID Information page on our website. Parents can also find Frequently Asked Questions at the site.
I would like to reiterate that our goal remains to have our students in school for in-person learning and provide a safe environment so they can remain in school. While we all would like to get back to pre-pandemic learning, the protocols and mitigation efforts are necessary to keep all students and staff healthy.
You can watch the board of education meeting on the District’s YouTube channel or view the presentation on our fall plan here.
Sincerely,
Adrian B. Talley, Ed.D.
Superintendent
