Summer has officially begun in Naperville, and it is the perfect time to experience all the splashing going on. Whether planning a staycation or visiting Naperville, our city has plenty of water attractions to keep everyone cool during the warmer summer months.
Plan some fun on the water by renting a paddleboat or kayak at the Paddleboat Quarry located at the base of Rotary Hill along the historic Riverwalk. A great way to cool off while getting some exercise.
If you prefer to be in the water, then Centennial Beach (pictured above) will be the perfect spot. It’s not a swimming pool, it’s not a lake, but a swimming experience like no other in the historic stone quarry. Its zero-depth entry and swimming to depths of 15 feet is ideal for all ages looking to cool off.
Naperville Park District has two splash pads for the kiddos and kids at heart. Splash Pads are located at 95th Community Plaza and Wolf’s Crossing Community Park. Hours are 9AM-8PM daily, free to use, and available on a first come first served basis. Don’t forget to bring your own towels.
Cool off with a Midday Spray at Rotary Hill, 443 Aurora Avenue. Overlooking the Riverwalk and Millennium Carillon makes a great back drop as you are having fun. This is a free event featuring a sprinkler that gives off a refreshing mist which has a long reach. Monday-Friday from 11AM-1PM, starting in June through the end of August, not including the first full week in July.
Another splash pad option is at the Naper Settlement’s Rita and John Harvard Early Learning Playscape. Designed for children ages 2 – 7, allowing early childhood imagination while connecting to the natural environment. With a push of a button, Kids can activate water cannons and the ground misters.
Naperville Kayaking is another great way to experience the outdoor while enjoying family or time with friends. The river trips on the DuPage River, kayak rides, stand-up paddleboards rental adventures at Whalon Lake make for an ideal memorable experience. They do accept walk-ins; however, reservations are encouraged.
If you are looking for indoor splash time, then there are plenty of hotels to help keep the sunrays at bay. The Holiday Inn Express, Embassy Suites, Marriott, Fairfield Inn East and West, Courtyard, and Towneplace & Suites all have indoor pools, and so much more to make your stay memorable. All hotels are listed at VisitNaperville.com.
All this splashing around will make you hungry. Don’t worry, with over 300 restaurants, you are sure to find the best option to whet your appetite. Explore all your dining options at DineNaperville.com.
