Naperville Rotary Sunrise celebrates first 30 years of fellowship and service

-

Above / During the June 15, 2021, Napeville City Council meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Jennifer Bruzan Taylor read a Mayoral Proclamation recognizing June 23, 2021, to be “Rotary Club of Naperville Sunrise Day in the City of Naperville.”

Chartered on June 23, 1991, Rotary Club of Naperville Sunrise was set to celebrate its first 30 years of community spirit and giving during festivities at Naperville Country Club on Wed., June 23, 2021.

Hands-on community service projects are times when Rotarians display “Service Above Self.” Care and maintenance of the Ron Buonauro Memorial Garden at St. Patrick’s Residence is one of the projects.

“It’s been wonderful to help plan an evening that’s attracting the interest of many former members who are returning to help us celebrate fun, fellowship and community service,” noted charter member Mary Ann Bobosky, who served as club president in 2003.

The mission of Rotary is to provide business, professional and community leaders with opportunities for service to others in order to benefit the community while promoting high ethical standards, fellowship and goodwill worldwide.

Bobosky recalls annual fundraising events from the past such as NaperPalooza and Oktoberfest that welcomed club members to volunteer and help sponsor.

In more recent years, Rotary Sunrise has been most recognized for its St. Paddy’s Day 5K Run in March as well as Naper Lights in December, both held in downtown Naperville. The club also hosts fundraisers for other local, regional and international causes, including scholarships, that serve youth and family.

The Rotary Sunrise Green Man on the bicycle is known to lead the way for the St. Paddy’s Day 5K Run in March.
First held in Central Park, then Naper Settlement, most recently and since 2019, Naper Lights has brightened Water Street in downtown Naperville during the holiday season.

The 30th anniversary evening also will include the installation of the club’s new president, Ryan Siebert, who will serve the Rotary year from July 1 through June 30, 2022, Bobosky added.

Mayor Pro Tem Jennifer Bruzan Taylor, Rotary Sunrise president Mike Tenuta, president-elect Ryan Siebert, Tom Miers, Mary Ann Bobosky, Geoff Roehll and Dawn Newman posed for Rotary Sunrise Club photographer/newsletter editor, Bruce Dixon.

The Rotary Club of Naperville Sunrise, one of four Rotary Clubs of Naperville, currently has around 45 members. Most weeks, Rotary Sunrise meets at 7AM on Fridays at the Naperville Country Club, 25W570 Chicago Ave.

When young cyclists tour the path for the Family Fun Ride throughout Commissioners Park, they’re greeted by Rotary fun facts.

Editor’s Note / Naperville Rotary Ride was founded 25 years ago by enthusiastic cyclists in Rotary Sunrise. After taking several Rotary turns from different locations, returning this year,  the bicycle ride for all ages is hosted by the Rotary Club of Naperville/Downtown. After skipping 2020, the 2021 Rotary Ride is set for Sunday morning, Aug. 8, beginning and ending at Commissioners Park. For information or to register, visit Naperville Rotary Ride.
