Veterans in Touch – One Thankful Veteran

-

Where did 2020 go? It seems like each year I get older, time goes faster. Even though 2020 was a disaster in people’s eyes, in looking back over the past year, there are many things for which I am thankful.

First of all, I’m thankful that I made it through another year without Agent Orange rearing its ugly head.

I’m thankful that up to this time, Jan and I and our family haven’t been infected by the coronavirus.

I’m thankful for my wingman, my wife, Jan, for supporting me through the good and bad times. She understands my battle with PTSD and is always there for me.

I’m thankful for the excellent care I get from both the VA and my private doctors.

I’m thankful that I am able to help Veterans in their times of need and distress. Jan tells me that the reason I made it through Vietnam was because God had a greater calling for me and that was to help my fellow brothers in arms.

I am so very thankful to be associated with the caring men and women who are members of the VFW, American Legion, Auxiliary to the VFW and the American Legion Riders. When a Veteran or family is in need, these individuals step up to help.

I’m thankful that the outside yard work is finally completed. It’s a good thing I’m retired because I would never have had the time to complete the work otherwise. Stupid me, next year’s plans for the gardens are already being discussed.

I’m thankful to be able to write columns for Positively Naperville. They always support Veterans and their events. The editor does a fine job of editing my columns.

But most of all, I am thankful to be living in the United States of America. In spite of what some people say, we are the greatest country in the history of the world. If you don’t believe me, go to some of these other countries and you will see how good we have it.

Looking toward 2021, my goal is to continue to help Veterans and their families and to take all precautions to remain safe and healthy.
