Art Talk – October is Arts DuPage Month!

-

Arts DuPage, an initiative of the DuPage Foundation, invites you to take part in the third annual Arts DuPage Month, October’s county-wide celebration of the arts.

“This year, more than ever, we would like to shine a light on the vibrant arts and entertainment scene that thrives in our region,” I emphasize, in my role as Director of Arts DuPage. “And now is the time to come together in a unified celebration of DuPage County’s artistic landscape and spread awareness of its impact.”

During the last six months, performance venues around the world shuttered their doors, but that hasn’t stopped the creative forces from discovering new and innovative ways to remain relevant. Many events have been moved to virtual platforms, enabling arts lovers to stay at home and enjoy arts activities from the comfort and safety of their couch.

Drive-in movie theaters have made a resurgence and socially-distanced outdoor concerts are popping up in public space and on private porches. Art lovers, motivated to engage in the arts while observing restriction guidelines, are adapting to and enjoying the options that are available to them.

If you are incorporating the arts into your life, you can play a role in the success of the Arts DuPage Month initiative by taking part in the Arts DuPage Month Challenge. Post an image or short video on your Facebook page along with your description. No post is too big or too small – maybe a child gave you a hand-made birthday card or your family gathered for a paint party. It’s share-worthy! Be sure to include #ArtsDuPageMonthChallenge in your post. Tag others to “challenge” them to create their own Arts DuPage Month Challenge and then ask them to repeat the procedure. Your post will be shared on Arts DuPage’s Facebook page and will be seen by over 16,000 page followers.

It may be a while before large audiences are able to assemble, so take ownership of your arts adventures. Join a Zoom book club, learn to play an instrument or build something with your hands.

You can also check out artsdupage.org for a listing of events in DuPage County: museums, galleries and theaters are now open and offer in-person experiences. A world of arts and entertainment is only a click away! Explore, share your findings with the #ArtsDuPageMonthChallenge and enjoy beauty that art brings to your life.
