WDSRA: Accessible tree house is open

-

I am a fall girl. It is, by far, my favorite season of the year.

The combination of cooler temperatures and warm sunshine make fall the most pleasant season of all. The fall blooms and the leaves starting to turn colors are a bonus that has me heading outdoors as often as possible.

The best place to experience all that fall offers – the parks. And Naperville has an abundance of them. One of the best for families with young children is the Sensory Garden Playground (SGP). Located on the north end of Naperville, the SGP is a hidden gem where you can appreciate fall in all its glory while the kids have a great place to run, jump and play.

If you haven’t been there yet, the SGP is a universally accessible playground which allows all children, with and without disabilities, to play together. It is a barrier-free environment where all children can feel comfortable doing what they do best, play. It is a carefully crafted design of sensory-integration playground equipment and amenities.

Everything can be reach easily by accessible paths. This is especially beneficial for those individuals with physical disabilities whether it be children or family members.

The SGP boasts a Pony Stables Playground, Sound and Fragrance Gardens, Art Along the Way sculptures, and a Central Gathering Area – perfect for little hands and curious minds.

This summer, Phase 1 of the brand new accessible treehouse was completed. Children and families of all abilities are invited to climb, explore and enjoy the newest amenities including: elevated boardwalks, tube slides, a group deck spinner, and the new dragonfly sculpture.

The next phase will include a gravity rail, two-story central play structure, additional slides and netting. But until then, head on over to the park and enjoy the best that fall has to offer.

The Sensory Garden Playground is located at 2751 Navistar Dr., Lisle. (near the intersection of Naper Blvd. and Navistar Dr.). Learn more about the Sensory Garden Playground including playground guidelines and the Wheaton Park District COVID-19 restrictions/guidelines at www.playforalldupage.org.
