Above / Janet Derrick, VP of Loaves & Fishes CARES programs; Nancy Wiersum, VP of Advancement at Loaves & Fishes Community Services; and Michelle Iskowitz, Loaves & Fishes volunteer, are set to auction off a “Spirited Brunch” as the creative trio explains that pallet furniture also connects to Loaves & Fishes.
What do the following all have in common?: Adirondack furniture crafted out of Loaves & Fishes pallets, a canoe ride down the DuPage River with Loaves & Fishes friend Mary Lou Wehrli, dinner (with wine) made and served by our CEO Mike Havala and Board Member Joe Chura, and “Fitness, Food and You!” with Board Member Nicki Anderson that culminates in a garden to table meal from her own spectacular garden. They are all part of Loaves & Fishes’ most unique auction ever for our virtual gala Night to End Hunger being held August 29.

During the pandemic, Loaves & Fishes has seen a marked increase in the number of struggling families. The gala is a wonderful way to support our efforts to meet that need. This year we’re approaching the auction completely differently and many supporters are giving of themselves. This is resulting in some festive and truly one-of-a-kind auction items. Other offerings from Board Members include Biking with Bob & Rebecca Obarski and one-on-one life coaching sessions with Dr. Laura Bokar.
Yours truly will team up with Janet Derrick, VP of Loaves & Fishes CARES programs, and Michelle Iskowitz, Loaves & Fishes volunteer, to offer a “Spirited Brunch.”
The pandemic has caused everyone to re-think everything they are doing. Loaves & Fishes was quick to adapt to a curb-side model to try to keep everyone safe and still serve so many. The economics of the situation are extremely difficult for our clients and these challenges will most likely continue.
