Above / Loaves & Fishes’ Video Contest for students aims to engage the next generation in a “Miss a Meal Experience” to learn about food insecurity while helping to fight hunger.
Loaves & Fishes Community Services works to fight hunger and food insecurity by making sure this community has enough food to eat. Why is this so important, and how can you help?
The organization is inviting students in the community’s next generation to lend their perspectives to the challenge of hunger and food insecurity through a video contest.
Food insecurity is when a person does not have reliable and affordable access to enough nutritious food. Some people do not have enough money to buy food and afford other expenses such as bills, gas, medicine, etc. Often people who are food insecure are buying food that costs less but is usually less nutritious, or they are skipping meals and eating less to make food last longer.
Learn from ‘Miss a Meal Experience’
Loaves & Fishes invites students by age group (elementary, middle school and high school) to participate (with parental supervision) in a Miss a Meal Experience. The students are challenged to skip at least one meal during their day, so they can experience what it is like to be food insecure.
Create 2-minute to 4-minute video for chance to win $100 gift card
Students are then asked to create a 2-minute to 4-minute video that expresses their thoughts and feelings around this experience.
In addition, students are asked to explain how this might affect them on a daily basis. They are also encouraged to share their thoughts or ideas on how they can help fight hunger and food insecurity in our community.
The top video in each age category will receive a $100 gift card to Downtown Naperville and will be shared with our community. Videos will be accepted June 15-July 12.
