Pulse of Naperville Music Scene – Ring in the good spirit

-

As I sit here enjoying a hot cup of Thanksgiving Blend coffee, I’m thinking about how the season changes so many people. Throughout the year, as we go through our daily grind, many of us get numb to the feelings of those around us. Some of us don’t always open up about our love for each other, or show affection or even understanding toward each other.

The Thanksgiving/Christmas season seems to usher in a bit more sensitivity. People tend to be happier and more united. Even that person you know that is the “strong-silent type” might give you a tiny smile this time of year.

As I got in my car and turned on the radio today, I noticed that one of the local stations has started broadcasting Christmas music. For the most part, it was all the usual suspects – “Jingle Bells,” “White Christmas,” etc. I came to find as I listened, I was more forgiving toward tailgaters and other maniacal motorists. Like so many other kinds of music, we often associate songs and sounds to certain feelings and emotions. When I hear Christmas music, I associate the love and unification of the season with those songs. I come to find a gentler hand.

I know that not everyone is a fan of Christmas music. But, even if you don’t want to dial into the music, I would urge everyone to dial into the love and caring spirit of the season. Go to your spouse; your children; your pets; your friends; heck, even the boss or co-worker that makes you a bit crazy, and wish them the best. Tell them you love them or care about them. There is a certain cleansing that comes with compassion ….and “Jingle Bells.”
