Public invited to City Hall to provide input on Downtown Streetscape Project

-

Above / Second public Input session is set to run 4PM to 7:30PM on Tues., Oct. 29, at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle Street, in downtown Naperville, where it’s beginning to look a lot like autumn along the Riverwalk in this Tree City USA.

The City of Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering and Development Business (TED) Group will host a second public input session on Tues., Oct. 29 to share updated designs for the first phase of the Downtown Streetscape Project improvements. The public input session is open to the public and scheduled from 4 to 7:30PM in the NEU meeting room at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle Street.

Preferred alternatives since September session will be presented

Following the first public meeting on Sept. 4, 2019, the project consultant, CivilTech Engineering, Inc., and City staff evaluated public comments and performed additional engineering analysis to develop a preferred alternative.

During the Oct. 29 session, City and CivilTech representatives will provide three brief presentations summarizing the process to date and design components of the preferred alternative. Presentations will be made around 4:30PM, 5:30PM, and 6:30PM; the same information will be provided at each presentation.

Updated exhibit boards will be present, and City staff and consultants will be available to provide project details, answer questions and receive feedback during this open house-style event. Feedback collected will be considered in the development of the final streetscape design and construction documents.

Proposed Downtown Streetscape Standards could begin spring of 2020

The proposed project aims to rebuild sections of Webster, Jefferson, Main, and Jackson to the Downtown Streetscape Standards. The construction, which is tentatively scheduled to begin in spring of 2020, includes utility repair and upgrades, streetscape modernization, complete road reconstruction and pavement upgrades for Jefferson Avenue, Main Street and Jackson Avenue in the downtown core.

The new design will also include changing the existing angled parking on Main Street and Jefferson Avenue to parallel parking. These updates will improve pedestrian mobility, accessibility and safety in this area.

Project information and exhibit boards are also available at www.naperville.il.us/dtstreetscape.

Anyone unable to attend a public input session may send feedback to nicholsc@naperville.il.us until Nov. 8, 2019.
