Veterans in Touch – OCTOBER DAYS TO REMEMBER

-

Where did 2019 go? October is here, the days are getting cooler and I seem to be getting busier. Rather than my usual scintillating and uplifting column, I thought I’d have some fun by listing some interesting days I like to remember in October.

1 – International Day of Older Persons: I qualify.

3 – Mean Girls Day: Hey, we all know a few.

4 – National Taco Day and National Vodka Day: Interesting that these two days are together.

5 – Be Nice Day: Come on! You can do it if you try.

12 – National Pulled Pork Day: Dig the pig!

13 – National M&M Day: Everyone likes M&Ms.

13NAVY BIRTHDAY: Their motto is “We’ll get you close.”

15 – National Cheese Curd Day: Great day for all Packer fans.

15 – National Mushroom Day: Not magic mushrooms.

15 – National Liqueur Day : Cheese curds, mushrooms and liqueur… What a day!

17 – National Pay Back a Friend Day: We all have a friend we can pay back with kindness.

21 – Pets For Veterans Day: It all started with a dog named Bear. Bear was quite the ham and knew how to interact differently based on the individual needs of the Veterans. He would lie quietly on the bed if needed or put his paws up to encourage others. This led many Veterans to ask if they could take Bear home with them.  Bear’s owner thought, “Why is therapy one hour a week inside when it could be 24/7 at home?” Since Bear was spoken for, his owner thought she could help more veterans find their own Bear to help them rehabilitate. And so it goes.

23 – National Crocs Day: I know they are not in, but I have at least 20 pairs for all occasions.

24 – National Bologna Day: Fried Bologna sandwiches are yum-yum.

25 – National Greasy Foods Day: To go along with the bologna sandwiches.

26 – National Chicken Fried Steak Day: I make the best steaks with great gravy.

28 – National First Responders Day: Respect and honor members of the Police and Fire Departments.
There are many more days to remember in October, but these are the most important to me. Happy Halloween!
