On December 2, at approximately 8:10PM, Naperville Police Department officers were dispatched to the 4600 block of Fesseneva Court for a report of possible drug-related activity.
Upon investigation, officers determined a residence rented from a popular Internet home rental site was possibly being used to conceal a large quantity of cannabis. Detectives from the Naperville Police Department Special Operations Group were called to assist with the investigation and later obtained a search warrant for the residence.
Once inside, NPD detectives determined the residence was being utilized to conceal a large-scale cannabis trafficking operation. A search of the residence recovered approximately 68 pounds of cannabis, with an estimated street value of $311,000. Also seized during the operation were two vehicles and more than $4,000 in cash.
The following individuals were arrested and charged in relation to this case:
Cristian Valdivia, 22, of La Puente, California was charged with Cannabis Trafficking (Class Super X Felony), Possession with Intent to Deliver Over 5,000 grams of Cannabis (Class X Felony) and Possession of Cannabis Over 5,000 grams (Class 1 Felony).
Edwin Mendoza, 27, of Rockford, Illinois was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Over 5,000 grams of Cannabis (Class X Felony) and Possession of Cannabis Over 5,000 grams (Class 1 Felony).
Melissa Tavares, 23, of Rockford, Illinois was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Over 5,000 grams of Cannabis (Class X Felony) and Possession of Cannabis Over 5,000 grams (Class 1 Felony).
All three subjects are currently in custody at the Will County Jail.
The Naperville Police wish to remind the public and the news media that a charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
