Naperville is filled with humanitarian, philanthropic and nonprofit organizations. These organizations thrive in Naperville because of the generosity of many Naperville residents. Either through church groups or individual generosity, Naperville has proven itself to be a very charitable suburb.
One humanitarian organization centered in Naperville that I admire and feel deserves recognition is Loaves and Fishes Community Services. Loaves and Fishes was founded in 1984 by St. Raphael Church to help eradicate hunger in DuPage County. They have grown substantially in the 34 years they have been around, in part due to community donations. In fact, some donations have even included cars!
While individual donations can help support Loaves and Fishes, commercial partners are a key part of their success. One such partner that I am proud to note is Casey’s Foods. Casey’s is a small independent business located off Washington at Gartner in Naperville Plaza, and they make many donations to Loaves and Fishes. This relationship is a great example of how supporting a small business in our community extends to our local businesses having a vested interest in helping our community. Local businesses contribute by donating food that is then given to people who are in need.
If you or anyone else you know would like to help someone in need, you can donate to Loaves and Fishes. On the Loaves and Fishes website, it is suggested that “(You Can) make a donation, organize a food drive, or attend an event…” Donations can be given in person at 1871 High Grove Lane, Naperville, Il, or on the Loaves and Fishes website (loaves-fishes.org).
I highly recommend donating to them to help achieve their vision of transforming lives and ending hunger in our community. Together, we can keep being the difference.
