During a recent IndieBound Naperville monthly meeting at Kreger’s Brat and Sausage Haus when businesses owners were sharing some of the trials and tribulations of entrepreneurship, Tom Belgio asked if we had a special fund at Dog Patch to help pay for medical bills of our rescue animals.
I was surprised he asked. Then I realized perhaps we haven’t done the best job we can at informing the community about our business model and how we provide the best care for our dogs and cats before we offer them to folks who wish to give them forever homes.
We are a small, independent business, not a nonprofit organization. Dog Patch provides for the care of every one of our animals. Yes. We have a pet care fund, but it’s not tax deductible. It’s supported by donations and we appreciate every dollar very much.
We’re also fortunate to have a great relationship with Naperville Animal Hospital where we spay/neuter and microchip each animal before sending them home. Shots and tests also are taken whenever needed and before we release any pet to a new owner.
Looking ahead, it’s always been our view that gift certificates are appropriate for the holidays, not pets. The joy of selecting a kitten or puppy is personal.
We also have plenty of wild bird seed.
Already pet owners have been looking for Halloween costumes and warm outer garments for pets. Stop by. Come see all that’s new for fall at Dog Patch!
