Senior Task Force and Boy Scouts partner to provide leaf-raking service for seniors

-

Above / Local Boy Scouts return for the third autumn to help seniors who may need assistance with raking leaves to the curb.

Alert the Boy Scouts if any storm sewer drains are located along the curb. Keep drains free from leaves to prevent flooding. New for 2018 is an opportunity to spread the word about the “Adopt-a-Drain” program to help prevent flooding.

“Seniors, ‘LEAF’ your raking to the Boy Scouts this year!” is the headline on a news release received two years ago that announced that the Senior Task Force had organized a new service to provide “free leaf raking to the curb” for local seniors.

“The Senior Task Force, Naperville Park District and local Boy Scouts again are joining forces to provide this service to seniors,” said Senior Task Force founding member Karen Courney.

Limited openings are available in Naperville.

According to Courney, work by the Boy Scouts will be timed to coincide with the City’s annual bulk curbside leaf collection dates in October and November. More information on the bulk curbside leaf collection is available at www.naperville.il.us/leafcollection.

Please note that this service is geared toward those seniors who may have mobility issues or other impairments that keep them from accomplishing this type of yard work.

Sign up 8:30AM-5PM weekdays by calling (630) 848-5000.

Individuals interested in the free service are asked to contact the Naperville Park District by calling (630) 848-5000. Now in progress, simply call and ask to be put on the list for “senior leaf-raking service.” It’s the only way to schedule an appointment, organizers said. If calling outside of regular business hours, please leave a message with your name, address and a phone number where you can be reached.

The Scouts will provide all raking equipment necessary, such as rakes and gloves. If a senior wishes to have their leaves bagged versus raked into the street for bulk collection, the senior must provide their own bags.
