The Exchange Club of Naperville will recognize its 2018 Police Officer of the Year, Commander Ken Parcel, when the club meets at 6:15PM Thurs., June 21, at Traverso’s Restaurant in Naperville.

Commander Parcel, who retired from the Naperville Police Department earlier this month after 29 years of service, is the 16th Naperville police officer to be honored by the club. Commander Parcel was nominated by his colleagues Sergeants Fisher, Mannino, Pastrick and Schindlbeck, who praised the retiring Commander’s compassion, patience, leadership skills and dedication to the community.

In particular, the nominating officers noted Commander Parcel’s devotion to the community, including children and families, through his involvement in KidsMatter, The Education Center, Naperville School Districts 203 and 204, and his unwavering commitment to the Reading Buddy program. Commander Parcel is a longtime Board Trustee of KidsMatter and previously served as president of the board.  He was instrumental in organizing the annual Skaters’ Picnic which takes place each year in conjunction with the Last Fling at the Centennial Beach Skate Park.

As part of its mission to promote Americanism, the Exchange Club of Naperville’s Americanism Committee recognizes a Police Officer of the Year, as well as a Firefighter of the Year, every year.

The Exchange Club of Naperville welcomes interest in its organization and is always seeking new members who embrace its mission to make communities better places to live through programs of service in Americanism, Community Service, Youth Activities, and its national program—The Prevention of Child Abuse.

Traverso’s is located at 2523 Plainfield-Naperville Road.

Individuals interested in attending the June 21 meeting can email administrator@exchangeclub.org to check availability of reservations. Prospective members are welcome to visit the first time for no charge (cash bar not included).
