For the 21st consecutive year, a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site will operate in Naperville during the income tax filing season. The VITA location this year is the Naperville Public Library, Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave. in downtown Naperville.

The VITA program will operate from 9AM until Noon on Saturdays, February 24 and March 3, March 17 and March 24.  Clients will be assisted in the order of their arrival. Reservations are not accepted. Early arrival between 8AM and 9AM is recommended.

The VITA program is designed to benefit individuals and families of low-to-moderate income who would like free assistance to complete their 2017 Federal and Illinois state income tax returns. The aim of the program is to ensure that eligible taxpayers receive the tax benefits that have been created to aid lower income families.  This IRS-affiliated VITA site is sponsored by the Notre Dame Club of Greater DuPage and Benedictine University.

Staffed by Notre Dame Club members & business students from Benedictine

The VITA program in Naperville is staffed by business students from Benedictine University and Notre Dame Club members, who must complete training and IRS certification in order to qualify as tax preparers. The program is overseen by accounting professionals and Benedictine University faculty members.

Individuals, couples and families interested in receiving help with the preparation of their 2017 Federal and Illinois State tax returns should bring proof of identification and tax information such as: W-2 forms, 1099 forms, property tax bill, copies of last year’s tax returns, bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit of refunds, and any other relevant income and expense information.  Participants must also bring proof of health care coverage (Form 1095).
