This month I wanted to reflect on the Christmas season and bring attention to an upcoming Ribfest event. Now bear with me, I know it’s early, but there is a connection.
Aside from the obvious religious meaning, Christmas is a time when giving becomes a way to not only warm my heart, but a way to fill and warm the hearts of others, especially those in need. I was just starting to think about the 2017 Christmas season when I got the news that Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler would be gracing the Main Stage on July 7 of this year’s Ribfest event. Steven Tyler is someone that makes it a priority to fill and warm hearts every day of the year.
Steven has made many mistakes and battled many demons and diseases in his life, including drug addiction and Hepatitis C. He now uses those experiences to educate and help others in need. In 2015, Steven started an organization called Janie’s Fund to help abused girls, and he just recently opened Janie’s House in Atlanta, which provides shelter and counseling for 16 girls.
Naperville Exchange Club has donated millions to preventative child abuse and domestic violence programs for more than 30 years, and this year a percentage of proceeds will be donated to Steven Tyler’s Janie’s Fund. So, by simply attending Steven Tyler’s performance at the 2018 Ribfest, you, too, can help fill the hearts of many of those in need.
Let’s follow Steven’s example and keep the loving and caring spirits alive with warm, giving hearts throughout the coming year.
