Naperville gets set for 2017 Fat Tuesday, Feb. 28

Above / A hot time is planned in the old town whether voting or letting the good times roll on Feb. 28.

Fat Tuesday in Naperville is rotund with grandiloquent festivities!

Whether performing your civic duty at a local polling place in Naperville Township, checking out the Noon Naperville Lions Club or moving to all that jazz; Tues., Feb. 28, wraps of the shortest month with many enlightening and entertaining ways to enjoy a “school day.”

Naperville Township residents vote in Republican Primary, 6AM-7PM

For starters, from 6AM to 7PM, registered voters in Naperville Township are encouraged to vote in the Republican Primary to elect candidates to run in the April 4 Consolidated Election. (Click here for a list of the candidates and the consolidation of precincts into 14 polling places.)

String on gold, green and purple beads from 11AM to 11PM at Heaven on Seven

Laissez les bons temps rouler at 224 S. Main St.

Mardi Gras is an all-day event at Heaven on Seven where New Orleans-style music, menus and more welcome revelers to let the good times roll. The restaurant at 224 S. Main in downtown Naperville is open from 11AM to 11PM.

Brother John performs from 6PM to 11PM.

Table reservations are available for parties of four. Just be on time!

Meanwhile, Heaven on Seven serves brunch from 10AM to 3PM on Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget the gumbo!

Naperville Lions Club meets at noon

At noon, the Naperville Lions Club begins its weekly lunch gathering at Braconi’s in Cress Creek Commons.

Did you know? The West Suburban Philanthropic Network recently named the Naperville Noon Lions Club and Foundation as its 2017 philanthropy award recipient in the Service Club category.  Individuals interested in learning about the award-winning service club with a mission to provide eye examinations, eye glasses and hearing examinations and more to local children and adults are welcome to attend a luncheon meeting.

Be prepared to vote on April 4, 2017

Meet and greet Vasavi Chakka, one of seven candidates running to serve the School District 204 Board of Education from 5:30 to 7PM at Aurellio’s.

Be prepared for the upcoming Consolidated Election on Tues., April 4. Polls will be open from 6AM to 7PM on Election Day.

Jazz it up for Habitat for Humanity at 7PM

Naperville Jazz Concert begins at 7PM. Listen and dance to jazz favorites and big-band sounds at Community United Methodist Church, 20 N. Center St. Doors open at 6:30PM for the benefit in support of Aurora-based Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity. The church will stage a concert by the Sounds Hounds band of Glen Ellyn. Dancing is included. The public is invited.

Free childcare will be offered. In a nod to Fat Tuesday, the day before Lent begins, Polish-style paczki pastries, fried doughnuts, will be among refreshments sold at intermission.

Tickets are $20 at the door and $5 for college students. Children age 10 and under will be admitted free. Tickets also are available online at communityunitedmethodist.org/donate.

Vote for student videographers in KidsMatter Digital Footprint contest

The Yellow Box is located at 1635 Emerson Lane, just off Ogden and Rickert.

KidsMatter hosts Hollywood Red Carpet Premiere event from 7PM to 8:30PM at Community Christian Church, located at 1635 Emerson Lane.

Who will be the winners of the 2017 Digital Footprint Video Contest?

Join emcee Ray Kinney and friends from School Districts 203 and 204, Mayor Steve Chirico and KidsMatter for a unique Hollywood Red Carpet Premiere event to celebrate all of the student videographers as the 14 finalist videos are unveiled. Attendees will determine the winning videos by live vote using their own mobile devices.

Hint: The more friends and family you bring, the more votes your favorite video will receive. The top three grade level winners will receive cash prizes live on stage.  The top overall video will receive $500 for the respective school and a traveling trophy.
