Naperville Police respond to disperse bar crowd where charges include aggravated battery

Naperville PoliceAt approximately 1AM on Jan. 21, 2017, Naperville Police Officers responded to Bar Louie, 22 East Chicago Avenue, to assist in dispersing a crowd that was gathering inside of the establishment.

Upon arrival, officers noticed a crowd gathering near the entrance to the bar. A subject, later identified as Timothy Caldwell, was engaged in a verbal altercation with Bar Louie staff and was told to leave the premises.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Caldwell did not pay his bill and was taken into custody for said offense, as well as battering one of the bouncers.

Remaining patrons were advised to disperse by Bar Louie staff and police. Despite efforts to get another subject, later identified as Kevin R. Bryant, to disperse; he refused and was taken into custody (charges detailed below). Subsequently, a subject, later identified as Tawana L. Hosey, threw a beer bottle at a Naperville Police Sergeant, causing him to be injured.

Hosey was then taken into custody (see charges below).

Due to the size of the crowd that was gathering, approximately 100 individuals, Naperville Police requested mutual aid from neighboring agencies.

Officers from the Aurora Police Department, DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and Lisle Police Department responded and assisted with dispersing of the crowd.

Charges

The following are the charges for Caldwell, Bryant, and Hosey for their involvement:

Suspect 1: Timothy Caldwell, a 30-year-old male from the 1300 block of West Galena Boulevard in Aurora. Caldwell was charged with Retail Theft, Battery, and Criminal Trespass to Property.

Suspect 2: Kevin R. Bryant, a 38-year-old male from the 1400 block of Light Road in Oswego. Bryant was charged with Aggravated Resisting a Peace Officer (Felony), two counts of Battery, and Criminal Trespass to Property.

Suspect 3: Tawana L. Hosey, a 32-year-old female from the 1400 block of Light Road in Oswego. Hosey was charged with Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer (Felony charge) and Resisting a Peace Officer.

During the incident a Naperville Police Department sergeant and officer sustained non-life threatening injuries. The sergeant required follow up care at Edward Hospital, where he was treated and later released.

Further investigation into this incident will be conducted by police department personnel to determine if there are any additional charges and/or violations.

The Naperville Police wish to remind the public and the news media that a charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
