Above / Naperville Police seek witnesses as they investigate fatal accident Ogden Avenue east of Route 59.
On Thursday, January 19 at approximately 12:15PM, the Naperville Police and Fire departments responded to the area of Ogden Avenue and Route 59 for a report that a vehicle had struck a traffic signal and that the driver was unresponsive.
Upon arrival, the Naperville Fire Department attended to the driver – the lone occupant of a 2015 Kia Optima – who was pinned inside the vehicle. The driver was eventually extricated from the vehicle and transported to Edward Hospital, where he died of his injuries. The name of the deceased Bolingbrook resident, a 65-year-old male, is being withheld until notification can be made to family members.
The initial investigation indicates the Kia was heading east on Ogden Avenue when it cut across the center median and entered the westbound lanes of Ogden Avenue just east of Route 59. The Kia then continued traveling east, in the westbound lanes of traffic, until it struck a traffic signal pole located on the northwest corner to the entrance of Fox River Commons Shopping Center at 868 S. Route 59.
Due to the nature of the crash, members of the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit trained in crash reconstruction responded to the scene to investigate. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
During the course of the initial investigation, westbound Ogden Avenue was closed from Fort Hill Drive to Route 59 until approximately 4:15PM.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any additional information regarding the crash is asked to contact the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit at (630) 305-5379 or email parcelk@naperville.il.us.
