Today we are remembering Jean Wehrli and her cheerful inspiration

-

Above / Back in March 2009, Jean Wehrli displayed her optimism, certain she had just purchased a lucky ticket with winning Illinois Lottery numbers.

Jean Knoch Wehrli, age 88, of Naperville, died on December 12, 2016.

Jean is survived by three sisters, Marjorie Knoch Schaller, Doris Knoch Wood and Joanne Knoch Strong (Jim); as well as seven children, Mary Lou (Herb), Win (Deborah), Fred (Anne), Jill, Francie, Annette and Grant (Sharon); 14 grandchildren Sarah, Megan (Travis), Lauren (Josh), Michelle (Aaron), Dana, Michael (Colleen), Austin, Elizabeth, Kayla, Colette, Jack, Jake, Joe, and Luke; and three great-grandchildren Emma, Benjamin and Harper.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Wehrli, in 2015; and her parents Judge Win and Irene Knoch.

Visitation is from 3 to 8PM today, Fri., Dec. 16, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill Street.

A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11AM Sat., Dec. 17, at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 36 N. Ellsworth Street. Interment will follow at Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery.

On a personal note, we have many wonderful memories of Jean Wehrli, always a sweet, loving and encouraging woman, eager to share a tip about a good book.

Over many years, whenever we ran into Jean, she was at one of our favorite places.

Whether purchasing her weekly Lotto ticket at Oswald’s Pharmacy, attending a Thursday evening Municipal Band Concert in Central Park, following her son’s political career from City Hall to Springfield or enjoying an American Legion dinner at the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873, Jean brightened the room with good cheer and fun ideas.

We’ll also always appreciate Jean’s idea to share her beautiful wedding photo (1952) one spring with Positively Naperville to highlight the changing styles in wedding gowns as she and her husband, Don, were about to celebrate another wedding anniversary.

We recall the time she said, “I like the way Positively Naperville is always looking forward. It’s better than dwelling on the past.”

Our community has been blessed to receive Jean’s faithful gift of parenting that has left a large dedicated and free-spirited family, focused to serve many interests and enterprises.

As for gifts in Jean’s memory, her obituary presents her suggestion, “‘Come when you can. Leave when you must.’ Memorials may be made by taking a friend to lunch.”
