Naperville Woman’s Club Art Fair continues 10AM-5PM Sunday at Naper Settlement

Above / Walking sticks and canes with a haunting sense of humor were attractive to many folks who visited Naper Settlement Saturday for a stroll of the NWC Fine Art Fair. Day 2 of the exhibit is Sunday.

UPDATE May 2017 / Alert! Alert! The Naperville Woman’s Club 58th Fine Art Fair returns to Naper Settlement on June 24 and June 25. The two-day showcase of juried art and musical attractions is two weeks earlier this year. Stay tuned for updates.

2016 Post / The Naperville Woman’s Club 57th Fine Art Fair is set among the beautiful landscape and historic buildings at Naper Settlement.

In addition to the work of 124 juried artists available for purchase, the weekend features artist demonstrations, live music performed by a folk-flamenco guitar duo, children’s activities in the Petite Picasso tent and visits to the historic homes in the village. Items for the Silent Auction are on display waiting for bids in the air-conditioned Meeting House. Bidding on all the donated items will run until 3PM Sunday.

The “Empty Bowls” exhibit under the tent near the Naperville Woman’s Club info booth is the place where ceramic pieces have been created and donated by the artists at ClaySpace Ceramic Arts Center, now located at 740 Front Street in Lisle, Il. Funds raised by ClaySpace will benefit local food pantries to help provide food for the hungry in the community.

On opening day, enthusiastic visitors strolled the pathways among the tents of original artwork before 12 winners in five various categories were selected. During a reception in the PreEmption House at the close of the event on Saturday, the judges’ decisions were announced.

Judges pick 2016 award winners

Professional artists Charles Heinrich, Jon Pacheco and Leslie Colonna provided their expertise to select the juried recipients of the 2016 NWC Art Fair Awards in five categories: Photography, Jewelry, Fiber, 2D Painting and Drawing, and 3D Ceramics, Sculpture, Glass, Wood, Mixed Media, Repurposed, and Wood.

Best of Show (Blue) went to Robert Cholke in the category of photography, Booth 13. The Naperville Woman’s Club Award (Purple) recipient was Mary Watson for her jewelry, Booth 25.

Awards of Excellence (Yellow) went to Miranda Meyer, Photography; Lisa Strehl, Jewelry; Sara Hoffland, Fiber; Chris Vance, 2D Painting/Drawing; and Mary Jo Schmith, 3D Ceramics.

Awards of Merit (White) were presented to Tom Phelan, Photography; Amy Taylor, Jewelry; Lee Galusha, Fiber; Carrie Wild, 2D Painting/Drawing; and Lisa Tolbert, 3D Mixed Media.

The art fair reopens from 10AM-5PM Sunday. Admission is free of charge.

Since 1897, the Naperville Woman’s Club has been dedicated to philanthropy, local culture, education and the arts. The Naperville Woman’s Club Fine Art Fair, first held in Central Park, has become a tradition every July for the 57th time.

Refreshments are available for purchase.

Naper Settlement is located at 523 S. Webster Street. Parking is plentiful at Naperville Central High School and just off Webster Street near the Meeting House entrance. A second entrance is along Aurora Avenue, just east of the traffic light.

The 2016 Art Fair Committee, led by Art Fair Director & Special Event Coordinator Marie Gnesda, was comprised of NWC members Carol Anderson, Bev Aper, Bonnie Bula, Pam Cieslak, Julie Cunningham, Jackie Doyle, Paulette Goodman, Sue Hanegraaf, Marge Holmes, Ann Jansen, Judy Kovarik, Wendy Piepho, Joann Protopapa, Katie Rothman, Carol Showalter and Ann Territo. Julie Cunningham is the current president of the Naperville Woman’s Club.
