Today we’re remembering our friend and cousin Candyce Krumwiede

-

Today, I’m remembering  my younger first cousin, Candyce L. Krumwiede, who died early Friday morning, April 1, 2016, with her husband, David, by her side at their home in Johns Island, South Carolina.

The Krumwiedes lived in Naperville for 25 years before moving about six years ago to the East Coast for fresher air to breathe and lovely ocean views.

We’ll always credit Candyce for inspiring our move to Naperville. After a large Mitchell family reunion at her mother’s home on Lake Freeman near Indiana Beach in July 1992— a time when our family of five was looking to move back to the Midwest from Chatham, New Jersey —we’ll always be grateful for the encouragement Candyce and Dave gave us when we inquired about the quality of life in Naperville.

For several years, I’d been contacting schools and communities in Indiana and Illinois to find a place we might want to move to be closer to family.  Naperville kept rising to the top. Thanks to Krumwiedes’ warm welcome, we came to Naperville, purchased a home practically across the street from them and have enjoyed connecting with family and community ever since.

The Krumwiedes were our wonderful neighbors for 17 years.

Candyce will be remembered as a great cook, avid gardener, home decorator and expert party planner who enjoyed entertaining good company as well as her extended family.

Always a fan of reunions and celebrations, Candyce returned to Naperville for visits, weddings and lunch with the girls a number of times after her move to South Carolina.

Her obituary appears in the Daily Herald, April 3, 2016. The following has been edited slightly.

FYI: A number of friends and former neighbors have asked about the trip from Naperville to Rushville, Indiana. It’s about 250 miles. Without traffic, the trip likely will take four to four-and-a-half hours down Interstate 65.
