Avoid Your Fitness SINK Holes

-

What happened to your fitness goals? Are you jumping to conclusions that you aren’t ever going to reach them, responding impulsively, losing control of your emotions, your diet, or focusing on the negatives of what you think you haven’t done yet?

Behaviors that mesh with your thinking (negative or positive) while ignoring data that could disconfirm beliefs are a common sink hole that leads us away from satisfying living, taking action, and reaching goals, whether it’s personal or fitness related.

In any given situation, if you magnify the negatives without collecting all the information, it can lead to anger, pain, and frustration. Maybe you are overvaluing some areas and undervaluing others which then leads to self fulfilling prophesy. Have you noticed things “never go your way”? Maybe you are creating that subconsciously with your thoughts and reaction patterns.

Growth and change require a balanced, accurate appraisal of the situation. Self efficacy requires a belief that you can change the causes. Whether internal or external, recognizing your belief patterns is the first step. Assessing your fitness regime as it stands including all elements from diet, sleep, stress management, and movement habits will give you better data to establish where your current sink hole to fitness success actually is. Resilience can be bolstered when we can consider problems more comprehensively–with all the information that is available at hand. There is no need to give up completely if you have a “cheat day,” but jump right back on the wagon when you can. Sometimes it is out of our hands but when it’s your choice, make the positive one to get out of the hole you are digging for yourself, and you see your goals achieved before you know it.
