What kind of music do you listen to?
It’s one of those questions that makes an audiophile giggle?
As I sit sipping an iced dark roast and contemplating my list of favorite albums from this past year, I realized that I might be slightly mad. On my list I have my heavy metal roots giving life to a musical tree that has progressive rock, alternative, pop, jazz, adult contemporary, funk, soul, and more.
So, when I’m asked what type of music I listen to, I usually just stand in a stupor with my mouth agape. I’m just not sure how to answer that without sounding like some kind of snobby sommelier of sound. And I’m really not sure how I got like this, but I’m thinking it has something to do with the dark roast.
We’re lucky enough to have venues in our community that cater to the crazies like myself who enjoy a variance of music that resembles Chicagoland weather.
Quigley’s Irish Pub provides everything from Irish Folk to local rock acts (along with a great bite to eat), and Frankie’s Blue Room, which has now expanded to house three venues under one roof, feeds my hunger for almost everything else.
Our churches and schools are sure to supply me with whatever the many clubs and theaters might fall short on – perhaps a symphony or a choral arrangement.
Whether you have only one musical preference or you’re a little overly ambitious like myself, I invite you to get out there and join me! I’ll be the one sipping on the iced dark roast.
