Leaf Collection Suspended as Naperville Prepares for Winter-type Storm

-

Leaf collection will resume Monday, November 23

The City of Naperville is suspending leaf collection this afternoon so that crews can prepare trucks for tonight’s forecasted winter storm, which is expected to drop 4 to 8 inches of snow between Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

Naperville prepares vehicles for up to 8 inches of snow Nov. 20, then leaf collection resumes Nov. 23.

City crews are converting the vehicles from leaf collection to accommodate deicing and snow plowing. Leaf collection will resume on Monday, November 23 for those residents who have not yet seen pick up in the third collection cycle.

If the City has to plow the streets, any leaves that are currently in the street will likely be plowed back onto the parkways. Residents who want to avoid this should bag their remaining leaves for pickup through the bagged leaf and yard waste collection program, which is free through December 11. For more information on this program, visit www.naperville.il.us/leafcollection.aspx.

Residents can check on the progress of the final leaf collection cycle via an interactive map at www.naperville.il.us/leafcollection.aspx. Leaves in the Historic District will not be collected Saturday, as scheduled, but rather on Monday, November 30. The City expects leaf collection to be complete by December 4.

Keep parked cars off streets during snow removal

The City requests residents assist during a winter weather event by moving their cars off the street until snow removal is complete. Please also shovel snow from driveways onto the parkway and not into the streets to help to prevent dangerously slippery conditions for both motorists and pedestrians. Shoveling snow into the street is a City code violation.

During winter operations, residents can get regular updates about street plowing via an interactive map available at www.naperville.il.us/snowremoval.aspx. This map will show the progress of snow removal efforts throughout a winter storm. When snow events occur, the City’s Snow Command Center will provide information to residents and businesses via the Winter Operations snow blog, available to view at http://napersnowcommand.wordpress.com/.
