Auditions for youth are set for Legally Blonde, Jr., the Musical

legally-blonde-jr-620x370BrightSide Theatre will hold auditions for its third production of the BrightSide Theatre Youth Project Legally Blonde, Jr. the Musical from 11AM – 3PM on Sat., Dec. 5, at The Theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall on the campus of  North Central College, 31 S. Ellsworth, or Sun., Dec. 6, at 1321 Ogden Avenue, Downers Grove.

Kids ages 8-18 (3rd grade to Senior in High School) may audition. No appointment needed.

Auditions will take less than an hour from arrival time.

Every child who auditions should prepare a memorized song to sing (32 measures).

An accompanist will be provided, so please bring sheet music or you may sing a capella. Wear comfortable clothes/shoes in order to learn a short dance combination.

A fabulously fun international award-winning musical based on the adored movie, Legally Blonde JR., follows the transformation of Elle Woods, an underestimated beloved blonde who doesn’t take “no” for an answer takes the stage by pink storm tackling stereotypes, snobbery, and scandal in pursuit of her dreams in this fun, upbeat story of self-discovery proving that being true to yourself never goes out of style. This action-packed musical explodes on the stage with memorable songs and dynamic dances equal parts hilarious and heart-warming all wrapped up in a bright pink bow.

Rehearsals & Performances 

Rehearsals will be a combination of 2 weekday evenings 6-8PM and Saturday and Sunday late morning/early afternoons.  Actors are only called when necessary.  Rehearsals will take place in Downers Grove.

Performances will be staged at The Theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall on Saturdays, February 20 and 27;  and Sundays, February 21 and 28, 2016.

The fee to participate is $275 per youngster ($250 for additional siblings). Everyone who auditions will be cast.

Brightside Theatre Youth Project

BrightSide Theatre Youth Project is guided by the belief that involvement in arts programs increases the development in children on both an academic and social scale while building self-esteem.  The BrightSide Theatre Youth Project is designed to provide a professional and educational learning experience for grade school to high school students aged 8-18 interested in exploring musical theater.   In this program, children work directly with professional directors, musical directors, choreographers, designers, and artists to develop their own theatrical skills. Our staff has/currently works with professional theatres including, Paramount Arts Center, First Folio, Chicago Shakespeare, Broadway in Chicago, Drury Lane Oak Brook.

Jeffrey Cass (Director/Artistic Director), a Joseph Jefferson Nominee, most recently directed Cabaret, RENT, Company, BrightSide Theatre’s inaugural production – Run For Your Wife and also for BrightSide Theatre’s Youth Project inaugural production Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, Disney’s The Little Mermaid and this seasons It’s a Wonderful Life A Live Radio Play, Disney’s Aladdin and The Sound of Music . He holds a B.F.A. in Musical Theater Performance from Roosevelt University where he also studied lighting design and stage management. He previously served as the Producing Director for Circle Theatre where he directed The Who’s Tommy (6 Joseph Jefferson Nominations including Best Musical and Best Director) Bash and The Distance From Here (Midwest Premier) by Neil LaBute, Burning Blue (Midwest Premier), Crazy for You, Beauty and the Beast, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Urinetown, Peter Panand New Plays Festival 2 and 3.

BrightSide Theatre (Jeffrey Cass, Artistic Director and Julie Ann Kornak, Executive Director) now in its fifth season is a professional theatre performing in Naperville’s historic downtown district.  BrightSide Theatre is committed to enlighten, educate, and entertain through comedies and inspirational stories from across the globe.  A unique blend of award-winners, premieres, modern works and timeless classics meant to reflect upon and inform our community inhabit BrightSide’s stage.
