November Events at North Central College

Through Dec. 3, Art exhibit: NCC presents an art exhibit by printmaker Robert Schwieger. This exhibit is free and open to the public through Dec. 3 in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St.

Through Dec. 6, Art exhibit: NCC showcases a free art exhibit titled “Land up High .” featuring painters Ed Herbeck and Yves Paquette. The exhibit is available through Dec. 6 in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery, 171 E. Chicago Ave.

Nov. 1, 6-8, 13-15, Theatre: Brightside Theatre presents “Noises Off,” a comedy within a comedy following the backstage antics of a touring theatre company. Performances begin at 3PM Nov. 1, 8 and 15 and at 8PM Nov. 6-8 and 13-14 in NCC’s theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Nov. 5, Panel: NCC presents a panel about key justice-related issues facing our communities at 4PM Thursday,

Nov. 5-8, Theatre: NCC presents “The Light in the Piazza,” a Tony Award-winning score about a mother-daughter summer trip to Italy in the 1950s. North Central students will perform at 8PM Nov. 5, at 7:30PM Nov. 6-7 and at 2PM Nov. 8 in the College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Tickets are $15/adults and $10/students and seniors.

Nov. 6, Visit Day: High school students and their parents or guardians are invited to attend North Central College’s Visit Day on Friday, Nov. 6, in the Wentz Concert Hall lobby, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Visitors can choose to attend a morning session with check-in at 9:30AM or a later one at 11:45AM. Both sessions offer opportunities to take a walking tour and attend informative sessions on financial aid, academic highlights and student life, with optional tours of athletic and fine arts facilities. Nov. 6-Dec. 18, Art exhibit: North Central College will feature the digital and graphic artwork of seniors Anne Dipert and Rachel Maher from Nov. 6 through Dec. 18. Their exhibit is free and open to the public in the College’s Meiley-Swallow Gallery, 31 S. Ellsworth St. An artist reception will be held from 5 to 7PM Saturday, Nov. 14; complimentary refreshments will be served.

Nov. 7, Music: NCC presents Davy Knowles, a Manx blues and rock guitarist and singer. Touring in support of his third studio album “The Outsider,” Knowles takes the stage at 8PM Saturday, Nov. 7, in North Central’s Wentz Concert Hall , 171 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $40 and $30.

Nov. 8, Music: The Naperville Municipal Band presents its fall concert at 3PM Sunday, Nov. 8, in NCC’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Admission is free. For more infovisit napervilleband.org.

Nov. 9, Documentary: NCC welcomes director Arnd Wachter in his showing of “Crossing Borders,” a documentary about the journey of eight students through Morocco and what they learn about culture, politics and religion. The documentary will be shown at 7PM Monday, Nov. 9, followed by a discussion in Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Nov. 12, Lecture: NCC welcomes Rev. Carl Blackstone, founder and executive director of Detroit’s Motown Mission and the Young Leaders Initiative, in his speaker series “Lux/Veritas.” He will share his story and talk about Detroit at 12:15PM Thursday, Nov. 12, in Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Nov. 12, Author talk: Innovation Arts & Entertainment presents celebrity chef and Food Network star Giada De Laurentiis. Nov. 13, Music: NCC presents fiddlers Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy in their musical experience, “Visions from Cape Breton and Beyond.” The married duo takes to the stage with a strong devotion to family and their musical careers. Sponsored by West Suburban Irish, the performance begins at 8PM Friday, Nov. 13, in North Central’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $65 and $50.

Nov. 15, Music: NCC presents the sold-out performance of four-time Grammy winners The Doobie Brothers, a rock band known for their No. 1 singles “Black Water” and “What a Fool Believes.” The concert begins at 6PM Sunday, Nov. 15, in the College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave.

Nov. 17, Music: NCC presents the Concert Winds Invitational Concert under the direction of Lawrence Van Oyen and the newly formed Symphony Band at 7PM Tuesday, Nov. 17, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $5/adults and $3/students and seniors.

Nov. 18, Music: NCC presents “The Fall Great Evening of Jazz,” performed by students in the College’s jazz studies program at 7:30PM Wednesday, Nov. 18, in North Central’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $5/adults and $3/students and seniors.

Nov. 21, Music: NCC presents “A Tribute to Benny Goodman,” featuring swing music from the ’30s and ’40s performed by The Julian Bliss Septet. The concert begins at 8PM Saturday, Nov. 21, in the College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Tickets are $40, $35 and $25.

Nov. 21-22, Music: The DuPage Symphony Orchestra presents “Trio and Triumph,” featuring the Lysander Piano Trio. Two performances will take place at 8PM Saturday, Nov. 21, and at 3PM Sunday, Nov. 22, in NCC’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets range from $37.50 to $14.50.

Nov. 24, Transfer information session: NCC will host an information session Tuesday, Nov. 24, for transfer students. Visitors can learn about academic choices, transfer admission process, scholarships and financial aid. Registration begins at 9AM in Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Nov. 26-27, College closed: NCC will be closed Nov. 26-27 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Nov. 27-28, Theatre: The School of Performing Arts presents the musical “Mary Poppins,” the classic Disney tale of the imaginative adventures of the Banks children and their nanny Mary Poppins. Performances will take place at 7PM Nov. 27 and 28 and at 2PM Nov. 28 in North Central College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Nov. 29, Theatre: NCC welcomes Theatreworks USA’s production of “Frosty,” a brand new rendition of the story of Frosty the Snowman, for two performances at noon and at 3PM Sunday, Nov. 29, in the College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Tickets are $12 and $6.
