On Fri., Oct. 9, Naperville Central High School and Naperville North High School will kick off at 7:30PM for the 10th annual “Wes Spencer” Cross Town Classic Football at North Central College.
In addition to the long running crosstown rivalry in the DuPage Valley Conference, the annual showdown will raise money for Easter Seals DuPage & Fox Valley through friendly competition. Since the Blackout for Easter Seals program started back in 2010, District 203 students have raised over $30,000 for Easter Seals.
Similar to Penn State’s “whiteout” and U of I’s “Orange Crush,” the Blackout encourages as many fans as possible to purchase black T-shirts to show their support of Easter Seals and their team. All of the proceeds from the T-shirt sales go toward Easter Seals DuPage & Fox Valley’s mission to enable infants, children and adults with disabilities to achieve their maximum independence and to provide support for the families who love and care for them.
“We could not be more appreciative of the efforts of the teams, students, staff and parents,” noted Theresa Forthofer, President and CEO of Easter Seals DuPage & Fox Valley. “Their generosity is helping raise awareness and funds for local children with developmental disabilities.”
Easter Seals DuPage & Fox Valley extends gratitude to many local businesses for their sponsorships, cause marketing support and special promotions. The nonprofit agency also thanks Christine Roy for doing “a fantastic job coordinating the project this year.”
