Homeland Security

-

October is one of my favorite months. While earlier sunsets shorten outdoor activity opportunities, more moderate temperatures allow the furnace blower a respite from air conditioning and heating. While some leaves have dropped, trees remain, for the most part, green keeping the rake in the garage a little longer.

October is also Public Safety month. The Confederation will take a little different look at the topic this year. Our October Meeting will focus on Homeland Security. Please don’t jump to conclusions that we are doing a 10PM News breathless expose’ on terrorists in our midst. Our focus will be on things we can do to keep our neighborhoods and out homes safe and secure and how this is a shared responsibility within the community. We have lined up several interesting guest speakers and think the meeting will provide both actionable information as well as ways we can all help in the community.

This month’s meeting will be on Sat., Oct. 17, with coffee and networking sponsored by Naperville Bank and Trust Company starting at 8AM in meeting rooms B&C of the Naperville Municipal Center. The formal meeting starts at 8:30AM and we promise to wrap things up by 10AM so everyone can get on with the day. As more meeting details are available, we will post them at www.napervillehomeowners.com.

Shifting gears, while summer started with a deluge, the last three months have been much drier than normal. With winter around the corner, please take the time to water your trees and shrubs to insure there will be enough water to see them through the change in seasons. I planted mums and asters over the last two weeks, and was amazed at how dry the soil has become.

I hope to see you on Oct. 17!
