Fifty rocks with fifty socks for Naperville quinquagenarian

-

You know the drill. A neighbor is turning 50 and friends want to greet him first thing in the morning on his milestone birthday.

Silly signs are available with funny messages, suitable for just about any way to help someone celebrate “fifty is nifty.”

For instance, one time a large cut-out pink pig was emblazoned with words that read, “Someone squealed! Sally is 50.”

Pink flamingos, cows, buzzards, dinosaurs and all types of whimsical lawn decorations are available for a 50-figure line up to surprise someone on the monumental event.

And then there’s David Sanchez who donned a tuxedo to execute his own creative way to celebrate his Big 5-0 all day.

David Sanchez says he’s a White Sox fan, but passersby might not get it by the way he’s celebrating his 50th birthday with a clothesline of socks.

On June 1, a clothesline with 50 socks marked the spot where Sanchez planned to celebrate his 50th birthday—in his front yard, comfortably seated on the sidewalk in front of his house on Raintree Road in Naperville’s Countryside subdivision.

First thing Monday morning, the quinquagenarian attended church with his wife, Julie, before enjoying the tastes of a Mexican-style breakfast.

When PN discovered the special celebration, Sanchez was sitting comfortably in his front yard behind a neighbor’s hammock Monday morning.

Barbecue ribs were on the menu for lunch, he explained, hoping friends and neighbors would stop by throughout the day and evening to spread good cheer.

“I think everybody’s birthday is important to celebrate all day—it’s just as important to remember the day someone is born as the day someone dies,” Sanchez said, noting June 1 is just the beginning of his “birthday month.”

Happy 50th Birthday, David Sanchez, in a most original way! Celebrate safely.

Editor’s Note / While on 2-mile a morning walk that usually includes Raintree Road, PN just happened upon the celebration taking place along the way on June 1, 2015. Since we never know for sure what’s happening in this city, we always carry our camera!
