Part of the Confederation’s mission is building, through a cooperative effort, a community dedicated to the enhancement of our property. Beyond external factors like parks, schools and public amenities, this covers making our neighborhoods the best places they can be as well-maintained, diverse and vibrant communities.
Taking this a step further, it means we support people being able to afford, occupy, and maintain a home for themselves and their families. Unfortunately, life sometimes gets in the way and impedes the path to having a home.
To help navigate these speed bumps, and in recognition of April being Fair Housing Month, the City of Naperville is sponsoring its first Housing Expo. The event will feature Naperville-area organizations, businesses and experts for panel discussions and a vendor exhibit to discover resources for every stage of home ownership – from buying and keeping a home to maintaining and renting residences.
While the NAHC is not directly involved in this presentation, I do encourage people to attend and learn about some of the resources, programs, and opportunities available in the community. Discussion tracks will include financial aspects (including dealing with foreclosures, initial financing and more) and home maintenance. There will also be a presentation on renting, including Naperville’s Crime Free Rental program that we discussed at our March general meeting.
The Expo will be from 9AM to noon on Sat., April 11, at the NIU Naperville Conference Center, 1120 East Diehl Road, Naperville. Walk-ins are welcome, but RSVPs to housingexpo@naperville.il.us by Monday, April 6 are appreciated for planning purposes. More details can be found at www.naperville.il.us/housingexpo.aspx.
Also, mark your calendar for our Sat., April 18, meeting (8AM for coffee and networking, meeting at 8:30) at the 95th Street Library. City Council members will be on hand to discuss what is on their (and our) minds.
