Dogs_PNCyberbullying program features American Idol, X Factor contestant

As part of its ongoing Parent Series, Linden Oaks is presenting “My Journey to Overcome Cyberbullying: A Night with Musician Jillian Jensen.” The program, which is open to the public, will be held from 6-8PM Tues., April 21, at North Central College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. in Naperville.

Jensen, a former contestant on American Idol and The X Factor, will discuss her experiences with cyberbullying and bullying prevention and support. In addition to an acoustic performance, Jensen will hold Q-and-A and meet-and-greet sessions for students and parents.

Visit Veterans, play Bingo

Every month from September to June on the second Tuesday, a motorcoach departs at 6:15PM from the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 and American Legion Post 43, 908 W. Jackson Ave. with folks eager to spread good cheer to veterans receiving treatment at Hines VA Hospital in Maywood.

The public is welcome to help fill the holiday motorcoach again on Tues., April 14, a special time when visitors play BINGO and visit with the veterans. For more information about visiting Hines V. ESLP offers free GED and career training

The Early School Leaver Program (ESLP) is a unique program offering free GED preparation, workplace skill-building, and specific career training for DuPage residents aged 17-21. Recycle your fridge

The Illinois Municipal Electric Agency (IMEA) is aiming to take residents’ secondary refrigerators with the Recycle My Fridge program. Residents served by an IMEA-member utility can get rid of an old refrigerator or freezer, free of charge, and receive a $35 prepaid card for doing so by calling (877) 341-2313 or by visiting www.RecycleMyFridge.org.

Serendipity Shop seeks donations year-round

The Serendipity Resale Shop is a volunteer-run shop, located at 12 W. Jefferson Ave. in downtown Naperville.

Donations of clean, gently-used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing of all sizes are welcome. Donors are asked not to include items that are stained or torn. The resale shop is in need of linens and home decorating items, such as lamps, dishes and clocks as well as household items, jewelry and collectibles.

ALERT! Beware of scammers

Beware of phone, e-mail and Internet scams. Never, never give your password, credit card number or social security number to an unknown caller over the telephone or via e-mail. No matter how convincing a professional scammer might seem, never give any personal information to someone you don’t know at any time.

Reports of scammers with official-sounding “Naperville” business names are growing. To be safe, say “NO!” to all suspicious-sounding solicitors. Say “Naperville is a scam-free community.”

Springbrook and Naperbrook Golf Courses are now open

As of the first day of spring, the 2015 golf season is open at Springbrook and Naperbrook Golf Course.

Kevin Carlson, Superintendent of Golf for the Naperville Park District expressed his pleasure that both courses emerged from the winter in very good shape, without the winter damage seen in previous years

Spring golf discount rates will be in effect from opening day until the regular season begins—usually in mid-April, depending on the weather. Driving ranges already are open at both courses.

The new Brooks Golf Training Center also is up and running at Springbrook Golf Course, offering golf fitness training by National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certified trainer Todd Russell, who also is PGA golf professional. An open house event for this new facility is planned from 11AM-1PM for Sat., April 25. The public is invited to stop in to learn more about this unique, new center. Guests will be able to try out the equipment, request a fitness demonstration, enjoy refreshments and enter to win two individual training sessions with NASM-certified trainer, Todd Russell.

Registration is now underway for the first tournament of the season, the annual Partner Best Ball Challenge, held at Naperbrook Golf Course on April 11. Deadline to register is April 5.

Naperville Big Band Jazz Festival

The first anual Naperville Big Band Jazz Festival will take place at Wentz Concert Hall, featuring clinicians Andy Martin, Wayne Bergeron, and Jeff Coffin. Every school will get a clinic from one of these World Renowned jazz artists.

The Band Perry will headline Ribfest July 5

Reigning Academy of Country Music Vocal Group of the Year The Band Perry will headline Ribfest on July 5. The 28th Naperville Ribfest will be held July 2 – 5 in Knoch Park.

According to Don Emery, Marketing Chair, “The Band Perry is a terrific, high energy country music act that will make a great connection to Ribfest music fans of all ages.”

Inaugural Jaycees Rooster 5K is Sept. 7

The Naperville Jaycees invites runners to participate in the new Rooster 5K, Fling Challenge, and Fling Mile at the 2015 Last Fling on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7.

The Fling Challenge is for runners to complete both the Fling Mile and the Rooster 5K. The Fling Mile and Fling Challenge will promptly start at 8:45AM, and the Rooster 5K will begin at 9AM. The Fling Mile and Fling Challenge will begin at 5th Avenue near Naperville North High School and end at the top of Rotary Hill. The Rooster 5K starts at Rotary Hill at the stoplight where the Fling Mile ends. All races are chip timed.

The Fling Mile course is one mile and follows most of the Last Fling Parade route through Downtown Naperville. The Rooster 5K course also follows the Last Fling Parade route. Fling Challenge runners will first run the Fling Mile course, then run the full Rooster 5K course. No dogs or strollers allowed on the course.

Registration is now open on www.rooster5k.com for all races. Runners may register for the following early bird prices through March 31: Fling Mile for $15, Rooster 5K for $20, and Fling Challenge for $35. Registration will be open from

April 1 through September 6 for the following prices: Fling Mile for $20, Rooster 5K for $35, and Fling Challenge for $50. The entry fee includes t-shirt (if registered by July 31), post-party, and overall and age category awards.

German language church service

Church services in the German language will be held at St. John United Church of Christ at 11:30AM on Sun., Apr. 5.

The service will be led by Pastor Egon Gerdes, and all are welcome to attend. St. John UCC is located at 1190 Olesen Drive. German services are held on the first Sunday of every month and will continue on May 3. For more info call (630) 355-5208.
