February feeds March mix

-

NAHC Camera Ready LogoAs far as months go, I have mixed feelings about February. We are still firmly in winter’s grasp, yet days can be bright, sunny and sometimes even warm (which for year-around Naperville residents is a relative term and that may mean anything above 40°). The major holiday season is behind us, yet Valentine’s Day can be very special for some and President’s Day might mean a nice three-day weekend.

For the Homeowners Confederation, February is the calm before the storm. March will be very busy with five Candidates Forums and a planned general meeting focusing on rental regulation and crime free leasing.

Beginning at 8AM for coffee at our Sat., Feb. 21, general meeting, we’ll focus on education and the role community colleges can play for both traditional and non-traditional student populations. More details about all events are posted on www.napervillehomeowners.com.

February is also when we send the bulk of our annual membership dues requests. We hope that all of our member (and non-member) neighborhoods will take the time to review and approve this affirmation of support for the Confederation’s role in our community. We are only as credible as our membership base, and our Board diversity ensures that positions we take are in line with community views.

We start thinking about Board succession in February as well. Our May Annual Meeting will feature elections for two Directors and the President and Vice President positions. Due to term limits, at least one new voting member will take a seat on the board and we encourage our members to think about getting involved by either seeking an office or serving on the nominating committee.

Even when snow flies and the sunshine is only a rumor, keep an open and positive attitude in February. After all, pitchers and catchers do report on the 20th!
