Art Talk – Express yourself

-

We all know people, as goodhearted as they may be, that talk too much, like way too much. They disregard the delicate balance of conversation and carry on for what seems like an eternity without giving anyone else a chance to speak. These mad yackers seem to be everywhere and there is little to do but to listen and plan your escape.

venezia_webWouldn’t it be fun, though, if you could do something about it? Imagine your joy if you could put the talkaholics on a dialogue diet, shove them in a language express lane or impose a time limit on their monologue.

That is exactly what the After Hours Film Society did when they established their “Say It In Eight” Student Film Competition. Knowing that students sometimes have difficulty in the editing process, festival organizers are challenging participants to create a complete film with a running time of 8 minutes or less for consideration.

Film entries are now being accepted and students of all levels (grammar, high school, undergraduate and graduate) are invited to participate in the society’s 12th annual student film competition. Eligible entries may be submitted by mailing a DVD of the film to the After Hours Film Society, P.O. Box 5266, Wheaton, IL 60189 or electronically by visiting www.filmfreeway.com. Either way, an application is required and can be found at www.afterhoursfilmsociety.com. Entry deadline is Mon., June 30, 2014.

A team of judges will evaluate all the entries based on age level and category (fi ction, non-fi ction and animation/ experimental). Films receiving the highest ratings will be compiled into a special program and presented to the public at the After Hours Film Society’s “Say It In Eight” Student Film Festival at the Tivoli Theatre, 5021 Highland, Downers Grove, IL, tentatively scheduled for Oct. 20, 2014.
