The Naperville School District 203 Board of Education on Monday, March 17 voted to extend Superintendent Dan Bridges’ contract for four years. The contract will extend through June 30, 2019.

“The school board is extremely pleased with the leadership Superintendent Bridges has provided to our students, staff, faculty and our district over the last two years,” said School Board President Jackie Romberg. “Dan is a strong, collaborative and visionary leader who has moved our school community in a positive direction. We are excited about what he can help us achieve from here.”

Romberg noted that Bridges is an outstanding communicator and leader who is committed to transparency and putting students and student achievement at the center of every decision. In his two years as superintendent, under his direction, Bridges led a large-scale community engagement process, called Future Focus 203, which involved more than 450 stakeholders in voicing their opinions that will lay the foundation for a blueprint for the future of the District. He was instrumental in bringing all-day kindergarten in the District’s 14 elementary schools and updating the curriculum development process, which resulted in a new, more rigorous math and literacy curriculum that includes Common Core standards. Under his direction, Bridges also helped implement a Rising Star School Improvement process, in which schools develop goals to close achievement gaps. And under his direction, the District launched a complete redesign of its website, which will be in production this summer.

Bridges said he was grateful for the Board’s continued confidence. “I am extremely fortunate to be surrounded by a very talented leadership team,” he added. The contract extension “is a reflection of the great work of this team of leaders.”

Bridges was appointed as superintendent in August 2012 after serving as interim superintendent for three months. Previously, Bridges served as Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education in District 203. Before that, Bridges served in a number of leadership positions in West Aurora School District 129.

Bridges lives in Naperville with his wife Jill and two children, Sean and Sara, who attend District 203 schools.

The terms of the contract will remain the same. Under the contract, the salary of $230,288 will remain the same and salary increases will be considered annually.
