Mike and I had a great August.
We went to a dinner held at Heritage Prairie Farm in Elburn. It was a farm-to-table dinner, served family style. Delicious!
The evening started with passed cold melon soup and a shrimp and tortilla chip appetizer. Then at long tables for ten, we enjoyed smoked trout and a new item for us—tomato and kale au gratin. I had never tried kale and I could have eaten the whole thing. The main dish was stuffed pork loin followed by the dessert, a cherry tartlet.
The dinner ended up being a trial by Whole Foods — they may be interested in doing these types of dinners on a bigger scale. They certainly got our vote. Hope this continues.
We also were on hand to see the new sculpture of Joe Naper coming to its final home at the Naper Homestead at Jefferson and Mill. We were there with others from the City and Naper Settlement (and some neighbors). We were looking east on Jefferson and there was this head and arms above everything else – that was Joe. Joe was designed by our own Dick Locher (the cartoonist for Dick Tracy and Naperville resident) and cast by Jeff Adams, the sculptor who did the Symbiotic Sojourn on Hugo’s patio in Main Street Promenade for Century Walk.
This new sculpture is going to be a great addition to our Naperville artwork. It was fun to see them get it off the truck — they basically had to put a noose around Joe’s neck (sorry Joe) and swing him from the truck to the designated site. The official dedication date was August 23. Joe will be there for a long time!
We played in the 5th Annual Ronnie B. Memorial at Springbrook, then headed to Café Buonaro’s for dinner, mindful that the family restaurant will close after 23 years at the end of this month.
We don’t know about you, but this new August weather was perfect for a game of golf. Hope you enjoyed a game or two, also.
And, of course, we attended Naper Nights at Naper Settlement on the fourth weekend of the August. It’s great to witness so much history in the making in this busy city and just beyond.
