Naperville loves a parade: the flair of a horn, the bright uniform, a handful of vets, a line of cadets or any brigade, who doesn’t love a parade?
This question was posed by the Century Walk Corporation three years ago when the “Naperville Loves a Parade” mural project was first introduced. Proposed as a self funded endeavor, the objective was to invite the community to be a part of the mural. Individuals, groups and businesses could all be included for a fee based on an escalating scale. The people of Naperville were quick to respond: Joe Naper, founder of Naperville, is first to be represented; joined by the Rubin Family, business owners credited for contributing to Naperville’s thriving downtown area; Dwight and Ruth Yackley, owners of the Main Street Promenade; and Dick Locher of Dick Tracy fame as well as countless others.
The mural, on the south wall of “Rubins Way” — the alleyway on the west side of Main Street across from Heaven on Seven where Rubin’s Department Store used to be – is now scheduled for completion, with several spots remaining to be filled.
You still have time to show your support of the community by adding your image, a business logo or a likeness in tribute to another and join the ranks of the esteemed others who already appear. Keep in mind that your donation is 90 percent tax deductible. Act now! Mural Artists Dodie Mondero, Marianne Lisson Kuhn, Adela Vystejnova and Ashley Samack are waiting to add your image.
