The Morton Arboretum is located northeast of Route 53 and I88 in Lisle and was founded by Joy Morton in 1922 of the Morton Salt Company. The grounds encompass 1,700 acres with nearly 222,000 plants and the Arboretum staff actively works to conserve and study indigenous plants as well as many species from around the world.
The East Branch of the DuPage River, which runs through the Arboretum grounds, rose 10 feet above its pre-storm level, which was two feet higher than the all-time record. The Morton Arboretum stated it is thankful to all who are hard at work cleaning up and restoring the Arboretum’s collections, grounds and facilities, and to those who have expressed their ongoing support for the Arboretum.
